Today was our last official meeting, however we will continue working on the project until the end of the semester (which is quickly approaching). In today’s meeting we started looking at the survey results, but decided to wait for more results to come in order to get more data. Once we receive all of the survey data, we can apply the techniques we used on our synthetic data to create recommendations for each user. These recommendations will appear on their web app.

We also finished our final report for the end of our research. We look forward to our future work. This has been a challenging and exciting project to work with and I am so happy I got to be apart of this opportunity.

Signing off,

Olivia

Nothing new in today’s meeting; still making progress. Only a few more weeks until finals! We still have bit to do, but I am confident that we will finish. We will soon be releasing our website, finally! Everything is set up to go, we just need the data.

We have all tested out the survey and it works well, we still just need to fix the connection errors. It seems like when more than a few people take the survey, the backend freezes up completely.

Until next time,

Olivia

The conference went great! We had a great time and got to experience a new setting, as none of us had been to Kennesaw State University before. It was exciting to present our research to those who were interested.

While we were in Georgia, we worked more on the tests we were running on our synthetic data, so we were able to add more to our presentation. We still need to fix the connections on our web app so that users can log on, but we hope to finally fix that this week. After that, we will send out the link to our web app and finally get the data we need. Since we completed the tests on our synthetic data, it will be easy to run these tests on our data when it comes into our database. We are so close to reaching our final goal and finishing our research!

Until next time,

Olivia

At today’s meeting, we talked more about our web app and also talked about last minute preparations for our conference. The web app still has a few bugs that were not noticed until a few people completed the survey. We are still working on fixing these issues. Since we will not have this completed for our conference, we will present our tests that we have completed on our synthetic data, specifically the Pearson Correlation.

We will be leaving early Thursday morning to get to the airport, and from there we will be going to Georgia to present our research at Kennesaw State University. We are all very excited.

Until next time,

Olivia

The web app is finished! We all tried out the survey and have a few small corrections that we still need to implement. After those are all figured out we will finally be able to send it out to volunteers.

After the volunteers rate their items on our mock deals website, we will be able to receive their input and begin programming our recommender system. We will be using Pearsons Correlation and the k-Nearest Neighbor Algorithm to program this recommender system. After we create this system we will be able to recommend products to the users that they might like based off of their previous ratings.

Next week is the week of our conference, so we hope to have all of our data collected by then so we can use the pearsons correlation and the k-nearest neighbor algorithm on it.

Until next time,

Olivia

The web app is complete! There is just one small error that we need to correct and then we will be able to send out the survey to volunteers.

The web app has a login page and quick information page that will allow us to also view the demographics of our volunteers.

Our programmer of the group is meeting with a backend developer that should be able to help with the small error. Next week we will begin with our new data.

Until next time,

Olivia

The web app is nearly complete, so as we prepare to send it out we talked about who we would be sending it to. Mostly, we will be sharing it on our social medias and around the university through different organizations.

After the web app is sent out and the survey’s are completed, we will be able to start the more “math” related part of the research. Right now, we are using synthetic data to practice applying the pearson correlation and k-nearest neighbor algorithm.

The web app should be finished in the very near future.

Until next time,

Olivia
